Morning Prayer is a quintessential Anglican spiritual habit. The service arises from an attempt to bring the disciplined and formational prayer life of monks out of monasteries into the lives of 'ordinary Christians'. The liturgy brings a worshipper through confession and forgiveness, the psalms, Scriptural and traditional songs of praise (canticles), multiple readings of Scripture (Old and New Testament), and prayers for others and ourselves. Its goal is to shape us as those who pray according to the pattern of Scripture.
