About the event
On December 25th we will celebrate the feast of the Incarnation of the Son of God, Christmas. This day initiates a season of feasts and celebrations, for our God has come to rescue, just as He promised.
However, as with many things in the Christian faith, such days being so familiar can lead to unfamiliarity with the real thing, and then even a contempt for the depth of meaning which Christmas brings. In order to help us refresh our eyes and celebrate this day anew, we can turn to those who have celebrated this day before.
On the Thursdays of Advent (December 5, 12, and 19) from 6:30-7:30pm in Room 212, we will host a class. Each of these classes will focus on an early church figure whose writings have had a lasting impact on the Christian faith: Irenaeus of Lyons (130-202 A.D.), Origen of Alexandria (185-253 A.D.), and Athanasius of Alexandria (296-373 A.D.). Even though much could be said about each of these figures, the focus of the class time will be on how they help us prepare for and celebrate Christmas.
These classes will each be taught by one of our resident theologians. Dcn. Kevin Portillo will lead the first, on Irenaeus. Josh Roach will lead the class on Origen. And Fr. David Montzingo will lead the third class on Athanasius.
